Eat Vegetables Helps Keep Kidneys Healthy

Vegetable diet is not only good to maintain ideal body weight or digestive system. A study recently conducted revealed that the vegetable diet can also help people with kidney disease to avoid the accumulation of toxins from the increase in phosphorus in their bodies.
Phosphorus is a chemical that is often associated with calcium metabolism. Too much phosphorus can absorb calcium from the bones and cause osteoporosis or bone fracture.
Therefore, people with kidney failure should limit their phosphorus intake by avoiding foods with high phosphorus content, such as milk, cheese, nuts and soft drinks.Food or beverages with a high mineral content should also be avoided, because it can lead to heart disease and resulting in death.
Many experts recommend a diet low in phosphorus for patients with chronic kidney disease. One of the recommended diet is by eating lots of vegetables.
Quoted from the Times of India, Sharon Moe of Indiana University School of Medicine and his team have studied the effects of a diet of vegetables and meat to elevated levels of phosphorus in nine patients with chronic kidney disease.
Patients were asked to follow a diet of vegetables for one week, then followed by a diet of meat two to four weeks thereafter. Then, blood and urine checked every weekend after a patient on a diet of vegetables / meat.
The result, blood levels of phosphorus in the lower and phosphorus in the urine decreased spending their time with a vegetable diet, than when they followed a diet with meat.
The researchers finally concluded, the source of protein in the diet had a significant effect on the formation of phosphorus levels in patients with chronic renal failure. Protein derived from vegetable oils include soybean, grains or beans. For those with a healthy body condition, are also advised to eat enough vegetables to keep the kidneys functioning properly.
